Online Design Consultation: Nursery Reveal!

We always enjoy when former clients come back to us for help in other rooms in their homes, especially when the former client was our first client EVER! This was the case when our dear and sweet NY client contacted us to let us know she was expecting her first baby, and needed our help to complete her nursery.

She had already purchased the main ticket items such as the crib, dresser, and glider. However, she was having a hard time pulling it all together.  Since she is in NY, and we are now Miami based, this project was done entirely online. We exchanged tons of pics, links, emails, and she sent all dimensions and photos.  Check out our starting point:

Nursery Before

The room coincidently was already painted blue when it was used as a guest room / office, and since “it’s a boy”, she decided to keep the wall color.

Nursery Before

She sent us this picture as the starting point, and wanted to keep things light and airy, so we kept the palette at beige and tans.

We reconfigured the space planning a bit, and put together this concept board:

The client found these adorable prints by this Etsy Seller, and we worked together to figure out a way to display them.

We purchased white frames and had the prints matted in white as well to make them appear bigger.

Elevation with Frame Layout

We added these khaki roman shades, which were retail, but appear to be custom, to soften the room a bit.

Check out the final reveal:

We personalized the space with a custom wall decal with the baby’s name, and monogrammed pillow to complete the look.

And the prints above the dresser turned out lovely…

Thanks so much to our client for photographing the final product for us!

Sneak Peek: Let there be light!

This current project has so many different elements to it, and we wanted to share with you the different design “stories” we want to tell with lighting in these spaces.

This modern cage light juxtaposed against the old brick wall makes a huge impact in the space.

This luxe flush mount chandelier has a “halo” effect when it’s on, and instills glitz and glam to this living room.

Industrial sconces against reclaimed wood—perfect combo in the bedroom!

And how cool is this light?

Stay tuned to see how these fixtures play a part in their overall “stories”!

Mint green for Spring? Yes, Please!

Today is the first day of spring (woohoo!) which means pretty pastels, and gorgeous weather. What better color to welcome spring with than GREEN? Mint green has been all over the fashion and interior design world this season.

Green just happens to be popping up everywhere, and so here we are doing our round-up of some of our favorite mint green spaces.

1.

Mint green walls like these evoke a calming and romantic effect in this dining room.

2.

Darker furnishings such as this brown cowhide rug and the Jacobsen style egg chair add warmth to this minty green room.

The pale green subway tiles in this bathroom give it a clean and crisp feel.

4.

Mint green was used very subtly in this design. Notice it is on the sheer window treatments, throw pillows of the side chairs, and on the dining room chairs. It’s a nice breath of fresh air to this modern space.

5.

You can truly be inspired working in this fabulous and cheery office space. The mint green bookcases stand out against the gray walls.- Nicely done!

Another way to incorporate this fresh color in your homes— Kitchen cabinets!

7.

If painting your walls or cabinets in green is too much of a commitment for you, how about you just add some accessories and chairs as was done here by Better Home and Gardens.

8.

One of the most common places that green gets used is the bedroom, and this nursery, is absolutely precious with the mint green walls.

Another bedroom done right with light barely green walls!

10.

And last but not least… if you are really feeling the green… lets step outside!

The best way to incorporate green is with foliage, and this outdoor space with its luscious landscaping and green cushions and pillows is the perfect location to unwind. And let’s not forget the view—HELLO?!?!

We hope you enjoyed the many faces of mint green. Now go out there and enjoy the first day of Spring!

Headboard Sneak Peek!

We are absolutely thrilled about the progress of one of our current projects. The client wanted to use different materials, including reclaimed woods and various metals to achieve an industrial look.  In the bedroom, we wanted to make a HUGE statement by creating a floor to ceiling headboard.  The perfect boards needed to have a grayish “pickled” look to them. After lots of sourcing, we found this Engineered Teak reclaimed from building salvage in Southeast Asia.—PERFECT!

Engineered Teak

We created our headboard drawings … and the carpenter got started!

And here is the progress so far…

For those that want to update on a budget, paint is the easiest way to revamp a space at a minimal cost.

image via spookyhome

These red bar stools certainly stand out in this all gray kitchen.

Our Top 10 Foyer Styles

Para version en Español, hacer clic aquí

With the holidays a few days away, we usually find ourselves entertaining and scrambling to make our homes look pretty. The foyer is the first room that your guests will see when they enter your home, yet sometimes it’s the most overlooked space to design.  Have no fear, C2D is here!!! We have gathered 10 of our  favorite foyers and are providing you with some pointers on how to make this an inviting place that will set the tone for what’s in store in the rest of your home.

1.

If you have a limited foyer space, this is a great solution.

image via pinterest

A wall mounted shelf, such as this salvaged wood shelf from West Elm

serves the purpose of holding your keys, a pretty vase with fresh flowers, and a nice print.

Definitely a nice welcome on a budget!

2.

This foyer also shows us how we can use a limited space and turn it into a multipurpose area.

image via jennasuedesign.blogspot.com

Hang your scarves, hats, handbags, etc on some hooks like these from Pottery Barn:

Or if you really wanna step it up and take a more unique route, try these hand hooks:

3.

Take a step up from the wall of hooks… If you have the space for it, why not turn your foyer into a “mudroom” type of entrance complete with a bench like this inspiration image from creamylife.com.

image via creamylife.com

For your version of this, a storage collection such as the Samantha from Pottery Barn will do the trick:

4.

A foyer is also a great place to feature various artwork, such as how one of our favorite bloggers, Lauren Liess did in her own home.

image via washington post

Keep it cohesive by using the same frame in different sizes like these Ribba Frames from Ikea:

5.

We love using consoles in foyers.  Pair a fabulous accent table with unique pieces to showcase on it.

image via kara mann

A few fabulous items to display on your consoles:

Glass Bell Jars from Z Gallerie
Glass Peacock Bowl from Shop Ten 25
Mercurial Skulls from Plantation Design

6.

A mirror in a foyer? Yes, please! They not only add depth to a room, but don’t you want to be able to take one last look before heading out the door?  This large floor to almost ceiling mirror adds drama to the space as it’s positioned behind the console table. Don’t you just love the glamour it evokes?

image via decorpad

The Omni Leaner Mirror from Zgallerie, will help bring this style into your home:

7.

Foyers are small spaces that we enjoy going a little crazy with. It’s no secret we love wallpaper, and foyers are always the best space to feature a cool pattern and give your home an unexpected element.

image via veranda

A cool metallic wallpaper like this one from Design Public will have your guest’s admiring your foyer:

8.

If you can’t afford to splurge on wallpaper, paint is another sure-fire way to give your foyer a wow factor.

image via pinterest

These stripes can easily be painted on, as we did here . And what a bonus to be able to have a bench upholstered in the same fabric color and style as the walls???

To get this look, we suggest you start backwards.  Select a settee with a pattern that you like, such as this one from Ballard Designs:

And then just color match the paint at your local paint store and repeat the pattern on your walls. If you already have a piece of furniture at home that you would like to use, you can get it reupholstered in a fabric of your choice. We like this Tansy Persimon pattern, which retails for $19/ yd! Easy and affordable transformation!

9.

If you are looking for something completely different and over the top for your foyer, and have the space, this glamorous design just might suit you.

image via houzz

Isnt this space breathtaking? The chandelier, the circular bench? That amazeballs wallpaper?!?!  We found a similar bench at 1stdibs.com:

10.

And we round-up our top ten with this bright and spectacular foyer designed by Diamond Baratta.  If you want to take paint to a higher level, adding a mural in a bold color to your walls as was done in this space makes a HUGE statement.

Large scale artwork, and a stunning bright chandelier such as this Murano Glass Chandelier will complete the look:

Alright folks, so is YOUR home ready to welcome guests this Holiday Season?

Happy 2nd Birthday C2D / Happy Thanksgiving

Para version en Español, hacer clic aquí

This month is very special for us because it’s filled with lots of special events. C2D the blog’s first anniversary (which was last week, and we totally missed it!), today marks Concept 2 Design’s 2nd birthday and tomorrow is Thanksgiving! We are thankful for so many wonderful blessings this year and we would like to take a moment to reflect on the goodness our second year of entrepreneurship brought us.

We had the privilege of working with such a warm and kind family while turning their drag kitchen into a fabulous one. We also spent the year working with a return client as she gave us the opportunity to transform her newly purchased home into a midcentury inspired dream (wait till you see the completed project in early 2012!) One of our favorite client’s on Miami Beach, also let us begin working on the next phase of her beautiful home. Our funnest project of the year was our dramatic Kardashian inspired living room. This young renter was a dream to work with and really allowed us to get creative with her design! We spent the summer transforming a toddler’s room into her tea party worthy space, as well as putting together a design for a bachelor on Coconut Grove (stay tuned for this reveal). Our dear friend commissioned us to help her renovate her kitchen into the contemporary space she so desired. And we are closing the year with a newly signed contract for two condo’s with an amazing view in downtown Miami—cannot wait to share these concepts with you soon!

We have had a variety of projects, and have put in many miles in our little SUV’s visiting prospective clients, and although not all have resulted in C2D projects, we must say we have learned something from every experience. We understand that things WILL go wrong (and believe us, something ALWAYS does), but it has helped prepare us for the next time. We are confident that there will be many more “next times” and we are looking forward to seeing what this 3rd year of business has in store for us. It’s very exciting to think of all that is to come, and we cannot wait to continue sharing our experiences with you.  We thank you all for the tremendous support we have received on our blogs and facebook.  We also want to thank our wonderful families and friends who have supported us (and forgiven us for “not being able to make it because we have a meeting”). It is from your support that we have gathered our strength to stay optimistic and see the glass “half full” even when it seemed half empty.

And for all of this, we are truly thankful. May you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and we hope that you too, can take a little time to reflect on what you are grateful for this year.

Toddler’s Tea Party!

Para version en Español, hacer clic aquí

Children’s rooms are so much fun to design, because we can let our imaginations run wild, and go a little crazy with the color palettes.
This was definitely the case when we were approached by this dad to design a bedroom for his 2 year old daughter.

Because this home was being leased, we agreed that it was not the smartest idea to go overboard financially, but none the less, we were
excited to tackle this project.

The before pics…

Only a play pen and a “box” of toys.

The client’s only request—FUN and BRIGHT.  He did not want a typical “babyish room” with pastel colors.

We put together this concept board….

Concept Board

We originally wanted wallpaper, but decided it was not the smartest idea for a rental. Not only is wallpaper pricey, but most landlords will either make you remove it when you move, or deduct it from your security deposit—too much of a headache. Instead, we resolved to use wall decals as they come in a variety of styles and help personalize a space, without committing forever because they are removable.

Decal

Paint Colors

Once the paint was on the walls, we went in and applied the decals.

Decal installation

A few shopping trips to Home Goods, kept us in line with the budget, and we were able to find some really unique pieces that will work with the current design, as well as grow with our mini client.

AWESOME FIND! This table retails for $365, we got it for $40!

Installation day arrived, and we were ready to set up…

Has anyone noticed that Mayra is always on the ladder?? ;)

The play table has a removable chalk board which also comes out to reveal storage for chalks and  trinkets.

And here it is in its new home…

And did you catch the flower night light?

We found artwork featuring owl’s to compliment the owls in the decal.

And we purchased this darling chandelier at IKEA.

And here is how the artwork and lighting completed the room…

This toddler is now ready for her Tea Party!

Our Top 10 Halloween Inspired Interiors

Para version en Español, hacer clic aquí

Halloween is associated with trick or treating, dressing up, apple-bobbing and parties, but for us, it’s the perfect excuse to round up our top 10 favorite interiors that are inspired by the colors of fright- orange and black.

These rooms don’t have a scary vibe to them, but they definitely are infused with sexy blacks and daring oranges. So lets get started, shall we?

10.

This is the ideal combo of black and orange. Isn’t this orange sofa the perfect pop of color to this space?

image via decor pad

9.

If you remember this post, you know we love a stripe or two to bring drama into a room, so we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to showcase this space with bright orange stripes juxtaposed by chevron patterned black and white fabric drapes.

image via furnitureforlife.com

8.

This dining space is to die for! We are definitely feeling the glamorous wingback chairs contrasted by the Kartell Victoria Ghost Chairs in orange, and the long settee bench.  Don’t you just want to gather up your closest friends and have an over the top dinner party in here?

image via pinterest

7.

This room is a great representation of how to subtly combine orange and black without looking too “theme-y”.  The black high gloss doors make a statement in this all white room with just the right dash of orange accessories.

image via decor pad

6.

What would one of our top ten be without some kind of kitchen thrown into the mix?

Simple, yet bold statement with the orange accent wall.

image via pinterest

5.

This room would be best described as rustic contemporary.  The colors and tree decal highlight the rustic appeal, yet the clean lines of the sofa and sconces play up the contemporary.

image via ruthburtsinteriors.blogspot.com

4.

Can you spell DRAMA?? The dark walls, the dark fireplace, the dark mirror – oooh la la!! VERY dramatic but at the same time this rooms vibe and fireplace makes you want to just curl up on the chair and cozy up with a good book.

image via google

3.

This dining room just gives us the chills… the wallpaper, chandelier, and beautifully upholstered chairs left us speechless.  It’s unmistakably sexy and glamorous.

image via freshome.com

2.

This kid’s room easily stood out amongst others due to its non- themed feel.  Not the typical blues and pinks that you would normally find in children’s rooms, instead burnt orange walls, a black post bed and what about those genius hardwood floors??? – awesome!

image via google

1.

What a better way to close out our top ten than by featuring this GORGEOUS all black living room?  It’s positively fabulous! It’s rich and luxurious with its combination of fabrics and finishes. And can we just say that the leopard print pillows look U-M-A-Z-I-N-G in here?

image via eclecticrevisited.wordpress.com

So which is YOUR favorite Halloween- inspired interior space?
